Gah! So I saw the spectacle that was “Burlesque” last night. This new film, starring
The Jigsaw Killer Cher and Christina Aguilera tells the story of a small-town screamer who moves to L.A. and earns a top spot in a Neo-Burlesque show.
Obviously, this is a ridiculous premise, and I had no expectations going into the theater. In the same vein as Center Stage, Coyote Ugly, Chicago, etc., the cheese was really melty, but I had a lot of fun. The musical numbers were ferocity- mostly because of Robin Antin’s hot choreography (she created the Pussycat Dolls, so duh.) and Michael Kaplan’s fierce costumes. Seriously, I died for “Show Me How You Burlesque.” I will be dancing around to that in my room for days!
I see no difference here.
I’m gonna go ahead and say that you should see this movie. It’s really fun, the Guy From Twilight is hot in it, and Xtina sings her face off. I mean, if you liked any of the other movies I mentioned above, Burlesque is right up your alley. Do it!
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! I’m so thankful for my family and friends, and for YOU for reading! Stuff your face, and enjoy the day!

I’ve been spending the last couple of days watching some scary video of Vanessa Hudgens as Mimi in “RENT” at the Hollywood Bowl. I’ve also been rewatching R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet” saga (because I’m a glutton for punishment), so I missed this video of Nicole
Shirtshanger Scherzinger performing “Over the Moon.” Also from “RENT” at the Hollywood Bowl, but waaaay better than V.
She looks great. She sounds great. She’s really funny. I need her to be on Broadway, like, yesterday.
What do you think? Did Shirtshanger rock your world?
I’m really bummed I missed this, but I just couldn’t bring myself to fly back to LA to see something with Vanessa Hudgens in it (Sorry V, but you are waaaay too nasal-y for me).
This limited engagement (3 days) was directed by Neil Patrick Harris! My fave. It also stars Wayne Brady and Nicole
Shirtshanger Scherzinger. The Associated Press dropped in on RENT rehearsals and found out what it was like working with NPH:
What a slave driver! BTW, how amazing is Aaron Tveit? (If you don’t know, he’s the dude belting his face off at the end in yellow) Gah! There’d better be a high-res copy of this performance somewhere. I really need to experience RENT at the Hollywood Bowl!
Check out this vid I saw on X17. Seems like Robert Pattinson is definitely in the “celebrity circle of life.” It starts out all cute with the paps following your every move. They compliment you. They ask you how your day is. They fill up your gas tank. Then, slowly but surely they start to annoy the eff out of you. One of two things happens next: either you stay indoors and refrain from hitting up the clubs, or you freak out on them and go off the deep end, a la Lindsay Lohan.
Which one will Rob choose? The jury’s still out, but he does try to get the cops (who could really care less) involved. My favorite part is the
psycho fangirl young lady who asks him about. . . being a keynote speaker? What the eff? His face is priceless.
Homegirl missed a golden opportunity there. If I happened upon RPatz in an alley it would not go down like that. I’m not sayin’ I’m just sayin’.
The Golden Globes are on! So far, Ricky Gervais is making me laugh, the dresses are making me smile, and the awards are making me cheer.
So far, I’ve cheered the loudest for Mo’Nique, who won her first Globe for “Precious.” Her speech was so touching, and she looked wonderful. Several years ago few would have believed this Queen of Comedy could turn such a powerful performance, but her turn as an abusive mother left few doubts about her versatility. If you haven’t seen “Precious” yet, what are you waiting for?!
I was also really happy about “Glee” winning Best Musical/Comedy TV Series. The-Little-Show-That- Could turned out to be the most nominated show of the night. It’s wonderful that a musical dramedy can amass critical acclaim AND big ratings! I guess times are a-changing.
Conan O’Brien rejected NBC’s proposal today to move his “Tonight Show” to the 12:05am slot after “The Jay Leno Show.” After much speculation and joking on both of their shows, Conan released a statement today- Tuesday- to address the drama between him and Jay Leno. In it, he raises a couple of really good points- namely that it’s only been seven months since he inherited “The Tonight Show,” and that the success of his show somewhat depends on a successful nightly Prime Time lineup.

What do you think? Should Conan have stepped aside? Or, does NBC need to step up?
Jessica Cornish, AKA Jessie. She is really great. With a wonderful mix of acoustic soul, rock, and jazz, Jessie is a British singer-songwriter now residing in Los Angeles. She is fresh, and you will love her!
