I Went to NYC

I’m trying to be better at updating.  We’ll see how this goes. . .

Greetings, all!  I’m trying my best to catch you up (quickly) on what I’ve been doing (read: why I haven’t been updating) so far this year.  Here’s a quick look at my recent trip to NYC.  There are only highlights- there were no lowlights. LOL A bunch of my friends from all over (Hawaii, Florida, California) were going to be in the city at the same time, so it was a perfect storm of fun.  I got to see friends from high school, college, and performer friends I had been missing terribly.  I squeezed in an audition (it went OK!  They had nice things to say)

My friend Alex was kind enough to let me stay with him and show me around.  We had a blast eating and walking (and walking) our way around Manhattan.  Check out my trip in pictures:

My first visit to MoMA. I love modern art. No, really.

Alex won us tickets for the Book of Mormon lottery. The show was fantastic. I was inspired.

It snowed the second day! Hadn't been in snow since I was a toddler.

A and me about to see some bones at the Natural History Museum.

I'm mad he didn't come to life.

On our way to a night out with some of the Hawaii crew.

Me and A dancing it up at Barracuda.

Me and T living at Barracuda.

On the way to brunch in the village.

I think this was a lesbian bar? I dunno. It was near our brunch spot in the village.

Freezing on our way to see Lady Libs.

She's so pretty.

Being goofy in Times Square.

Exhausted! My last morning. Waiting for Alex at his audition at Chelsea Studios.

I had an absolute blast during my trip.  I didn’t want to leave (but then, I never do.  Wherever I go on vacation is usually awesome).  Where should I go on my next trip?  Suggestions are welcome.  Also,  check out Alex’s blog about living and auditioning in NYC here.  Thanks for stopping by! xx

HAIR- A Peek Inside Opening Night!

As proof of my profound laziness and to introduce you to a good friend of mine, I’m linking to an awesome post about the recent Opening Night of HAIR on Broadway.  My good friend, Shaleah Adkisson, has been on tour with the production, which is making a pit-stop on Broadway for the summer.  Our good buddy, Alex, represented at Opening Night- and the fabulous party afterward. Ch-ch-check it out!

Hope you’ve all had a great week! I’ll be back next week with fresh reviews, recommendations, and a new project! xx

The HAIR, The HAIR, Is Everywhere

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while (which you probably haven’t) you know that I have a deep love for the musical HAIR.  I grew up listening to many of the songs with my mom, and I fell in love with the New Cast Recording from 2009’s Broadway revival.  You can imagine my joy, then, when one of my dearest friends, Shaleah Adkisson, joined the 1st National Tour.  She’s been traveling the country for the last 9 months, but HAIR finally came to Orlando and I got to see Shaleah do her thing as a member of the Tribe.

It was such a wonderful week!  The roomies and I saw the show twice, and both times it was so powerful and such fun.  If you haven’t seen HAIR on stage, please do!  Be warned: people get butt naked in it.  For some reason, several people in the audience seemed not to know that, and were freaked out.  I feel like that is common knowledge, but whatevs.  So now you know.

"Duh DUNK!" Giving "Law & Order" intensity.

The best part about Shaleah being back in town is getting to take her to all of her favorite haunts.  Namely, Seito Sushi in Celebration.  I think we’ve spent hours there just talking, drinking plum wine, and gorging on their delicious sushi.  We might have single-handedly kept them in the black in 2008.

I’m definitely sad to see her go (boo!) but totes excited to celebrate her Broadway debut when the tour cast of HAIR goes to the Great White Way for 10 weeks this summer!  SQUEE!

Have any of you seen HAIR?  What did you think? A big Congratulations to Shaleah!  Click here for tickets to see HAIR on Broadway this summer. Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great day! xx

Sister Act Comes to Broadway

Sister Act (musical)

The Whoopi Goldberg-produced musical. Image via Wikipedia

Yesterday’s episode of The View featured a performance by Patina Miller and the cast of “Sister Act the Musical.” This musical comedy is based on the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg.

In case you forgot, the plot centers around a wannabe Vegas nightclub star, Delores Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder and has to enter the Witness Protection Program. The police stick her in a convent, where she soon shakes things up by taking over the struggling choir.

The show opened on  London’s West End in June 2009, and  closed in October of last year.  The show is expected to open at the Broadway Theatre on April 20th of this year, with previews starting March 24th.  Patina Miller will be reprising her role, which marks her Broadway debut (Woo hoo!).

Check out the cast of “Sister Act the Musical” as they work it on The View:

Thoughts???  I hope I can catch this show while it’s on Bway, but is it just me, or should they really have made Sister Act 2 the Musical?!  I would kill to see that ending number with all the kids.  Anyone?  Ah, well.  In any case, have a great day everyone!

Lost in the Stars

The City Center’s second Encores! production of the season, “Lost in the Stars,” is a musical based on the Alan Paton novel Cry, The Beloved Country. The show centers around a South African family during apartheid. I’ve never seen the show, and it’s not often performed, but I did a bit of research, and it sounds amazeballs! Really deep and dramatical.

Check out this clip of the cast of ” Lost in the Stars” in rehearsal. Side note, my girl and former fellow Disney diva Lindsay Roberts is in the ensemble. Check her out back there in the yellow sweater. Don’t blink or you will miss her amazingness.

“Lost in the Stars” runs February 3-6 at the City Center. Go to nycitycenter.org for tickets!

Side note: this is the first time I’m posting using WordPress’ nifty iPhone app! Ain’t technology grand?!

My December (or Why I Didn’t Write)

You know, I started this blog over a year ago to discuss many things, but also to document my crazy life.  But that’s the thing with having a crazy life:  sometimes it’s too crazy to write about!  Don’t believe me?  Well, I’ll tell you about the  other things I’ve been doing that have made me too busy to write this month.  (Excuses, excuses. . .)

So, I didn’t write because. . .

“I was reconnecting with friends at the theatre.”

My friend, the beautiful Erin Wegner Brooks is currently on tour with the musical Young Frankenstein, and they came through Orlando December 1st.  Some friends and I got together to watch her, and even got a backstage tour afterward!

Ever year, Disney films performances for its Christmas Day parade just a little bit in advance.  So, early this month, I joined the Encore! Cast Choir to sing with America’s Got Talent winner Jackie Evancho.  Did you see me Christmas Day?  Yeah.  I thought not.

“I was helping plan an epic party.”

Work hard, play hard, right?  That’s what I like to think.  So, last year when my friend Terennce had the amazing idea to throw a dance party for other Entertainment peeps, I was definitely on board.  The 2009 party was such a good time, we decided to do it again this year.  Expectations were way high for us, but I think we pulled it off.

Party planning committee: Me, Alex, and Terennce

The best part?  We had a surprise guest!  My old buddy Bruno Mars was in town for a show at House of Blues, and he came with a friend of ours to check out our happenin’ fiesta.  I was wearing monster heels, so I took the prize opportunity to make him feel like a major shorty- which I hadn’t been able to do in YEARS.

Me: "Way to ruin our reunion photo, nerd." Him: "That's what you get!"

Jingle Ball 2010 was definitely a highlight of my December.  But there’s more!

“I was hanging out with my family.”

Mom, Dad, and Little Sis’ flew in from Hawaii to hang out in the theme parks.  Which were absolute INSANITY this time of year.  I spent a week hopping from park to park- in between working!  I also finally got to go into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as a guest (I’m busy!) and go through the queue line for the Forbidden Journey ride.  It was the business!

Hoping I get sorted into Slytherin by the Sorting Hat.

So, can’t you see how many other things were going on?  Isn’t it completely plausible that I might have taken a quick break?  Oh. . . who am I kidding?  I was just being lazy most of the time!  I promise to do better in the coming year.  Hopefully, I’ll have more amazing experiences to share with you.  2011, Here I come!

Happy New Year, everyone!  How was your 2010?  Will you be making any resolutions for 2011?  Let me know in the comments.  Have a safe NYE!

One Week ‘Til Christmas!

Are you ready?  I so am not.  I have bird flu or something and have bought exactly two presents!  I give up.  That’s it.  everyone is getting a copy of this album:

Have a great week, everybody!
