Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you get to spend today with people you love!
After last night’s celebration of music’s best and brightest, folks like me with short attention spans are already looking ahead to the next. I think California rockers, Young the Giant, are poised to rock the airwaves in 2011. Their name fits- the average age of this crew is only 21, and they’ve got a handle on breezy beach-rock done the SoCal way.
After spending a good part of 2010 on tour with Steel Train and (personal faves) Minus the Bear, their self-titled debut came out late last month. The first single, “My Body,” is pretty bitchin’ with its pounding rhythm and soaring sound. Check out a live performance at Sunset Sound:
The great thing about YTG is how grand their sound can be. Lead singer Sameer Gadhia’s got a great instrument. Very fresh sounding, but still really great at grounding the emotion on some of the band’s more melancholy tracks. Another one of my favorite tracks is “Cough Syrup,” which sounds like a sleepier Jimmy Eat World tune. Check on it!
Pick up Young the Giant’s self titled album now! Then, check them out on tour this year.
