In keeping with her commitment to numerology, ADELE will be releasing a new album, 21, this upcoming January. Her last album, 19 ,was recorded when she was. . . ahem. . . 19. And 21 was. . . well, you know.
This new album will have a whole new sound from her last, having been produced by Hip-Hop (and beard-growing) giant Rick Rubin, and One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder. Adele has said that her influences were largely American Country musicians she heard for the first time while on tour for her last album.
The first single, “Rolling in the Deep,” Adele describes as a “dark, bluesy, gospel, disco tune,” and it definitely fits that mold. The foot-stomping verses definitely pay homage to her new-found country roots, and the chorus reminds me why I liked Adele in the first place- her gut-renching soul and honest lyrics. Le sigh. I love it.
So, what do you think? Are you into ADELE’s new sound? Do you (like me) wonder why her name is now spelled in all caps? What gives? Let me know in the comments. Happy Monday, all! Hope you’re faring better than I am as the weather (finally!) cools down.
